It’s quiet here

It’s quiet here. We’re back in the daily routine. The children are back in school since last week. Maxime is doing well. Esther is unwell, with a painful throat. I am getting on with work. There’s a bible study to prepare for the young people on Saturday. I also need to anticipate future studies and sermons. I also need to update the church website. I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading as well, trying to finish some of the numerous books I had started reading.

Revival in Bethesda (North Wales)

Another quote from the book: “When Revival came to North Wales”, edited by Philip Eveson (For the previous quote, see here). This time, it is from the pen of Dafydd job, writing about the revival in Bethesda, North Wales, in 1904-05.

It seemed to those present that the Holy Spirit came, but not to make everybody feel good, or to make them have wonderful experiences. The Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, came to glorify Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, and to bring people face to face with him. And as a response to his coming in this way, they could only flee to the cross. They were brought to that point where it did not matter who it was who stood next to them — all that counted was that they were standing before Christ, naked unless He gave them clothing, condemned unless forgiveness was found in Him. Revival

Here is an extended quote from Philip Eveson, taken from the little book “When God came to North Wales” (Quinta Press, 2010).

Revival is more than having good church attendance. It is more than enthusiastic evangelistic activity with positive results. Rhos knew all this before revival came. Revival is that extra, that indescribable. It is the conscious presence of something altogether out of this world. The pure, powerful Spirit of God pervades the whole district. It results, as the New Testament indicates, in great fear, great grace and great joy, so that the ungodly as well as the godly are aware of it.

A recipe for Crepes

Here is the recipe for crepes that was given to us when I went to the Breton Cultural centre for an afternoon to learn how to make crepes. These are crepes, so they are sweet. With these ingredients, you can make about 4,5 dozens (about 50-55 crepes).

  • 1kg wheat flour
  • 12 eggs
  • 1 l milk
  • 0,5 l water
  • 500 grammes sugar (you can reduce it to 400grammes if you want)
  • a pinch of salt.

Beat the eggs with the sugar, add the flour and salt, mix well. Add the milk slowly. Let rest for about an hour. The batter will thicken. Add the water and mix well. You’re ready to go. If you use an electric griddle, set it to about 230-250 degrees celsius.

The pancakes freeze well, and I am told some people also freeze the left over batter. We do a big batch and freeze some packets of 8.
