A week in the mountains — First week

We left after church on Sunday 7th August for a top secret location the the Alps, 1000km away, where my family has a chalet. We took our time, slept in Auxerre and carried the journey on Monday 8th. It was a great feeling to travel through France. It was even better to see “proper” mountains. Most of the scenery was boring until after Lyon. Then, as we approached Grenoble, the mountains started getting higher and higher.

We hadn’t been to the chalet for 7 years, so it was the first time for the children to be there. The setting is ideal: Mountains all around, no electricity, no phone (although some mobile networks have a signal in the valley). The sun was shinning. We went for some walks and we all enjoyed ourselves… great weeks. Thanks to the landlords for letting us have the place for a week. No need to say we were sad to leave the place.

Visiting friends

It was good to see some Welsh friends yesterday. They are staying in central Brittany and came along for the afternoon. We had lunch together before showing them the church and Guingamp. the weather was ideal and we had a great afternoon around town and in the park, before going for a drink in a cafe. More friends will be visiting Brittany in the coming months, and it will be good to see them also.
