Income tax: well, that was easy.

Filling in the French income tax forms was giving me headaches. It is not that difficult, but it was not clear what I should do with the money I earned in the UK last year. I had the right form (n°2047), but where was I suppose to put these. I had something to do in the tax office anyway, so I went to ask someone about my dilema. It was very brief and went something like that:

Man: When did you come back?
Me: Last August
Man: 2010?
Me: Yes
Man: How long had you been in the UK?
Me: Since 2006
Man: You were resident there then. You don’t need that form. You don’t have to declare your foreign income for the first year you came back. You only need to declare your French income.

Couldn’t believe it. I wasted several hours trying to work it out, looking on their website, and now, someone tells me I don’t need to declare it…
Filling in the form should be quick now.

The contrôle technique (MOT)

We need to change our registration number to a French one. The first step was to get a certificate of conformity. There was some paperwork to do, but we got that fine. next step is the contrôle technique. I went this morning. There are a few little problems, but these are not important. But there are three things that need sorting out, and I will have to have the car rechecked for these. One of them is changing the lights. So, back to the garage. It will cost some money, by we have to do it.

I popped in the Fiat garage this morning, got a quote and an appointment for next week. They’ll also take the car back to the MOT center for me to control those 3 points needing sorting out.

Good to be back home

There is nothing like home.

We had a good break and came back today. We drove from Bala to Southampton on Monday. I was expecting heavy traffic because people would have been travelling back from a long weekend. But it wasn’t too bad. I noticed the satnav took us another way, maybe that’s the reason why traffic was not too heavy.

We slept in a travelodge in Southampton and flew to Rennes in the morning. Since we had all afternoon, we drove home following a scenic route, going through the center of Brittany. It was sunny and beautiful. Back to the study tomorrow, although I need to cut the lawn as well.

Easter break in North Wales

We arrived in Bala on Tuesday 26th April after an uneventful journey. We made our way to Bangor on the following day and met with some family in the evening.

On Thursday, we went to the wedding of the year. Esther’s sister Sara was getting married to rev Phil Highton; from Cheadle. It was a happy day, with a beautiful sunny weather. The reception took place in the Bulkeley arms, in Beaumaris, Anglesey.

We stayed overnight and spent the day in Beaumaris again with Esther’s family. They had booked a meeting room to watch the Royal wedding. I looked after the children (5 of them), when the grown ups enjoyed the show. We came back in the afternoon. Today (Saturday), the weather is still gorgeous. there are people everywhere in town, and by the lakeside. We’ll make our way back to Southampton on Monday afternoon and fly back home on Tuesday.
