At the fair

Last weekend was the annual “pardon” in Guingamp. It still has a religious dimension, with a procession on the Saturday night. But it has been secularized, and each year, there is a fair in the centre of town. We took the children on Sunday afternoon. It was their first visit. They were excited to go; We went on a few rides, had some candy floss. It was great fun. It was busy, very busy because the sun was shining.

We saw a lot of people we knew: neighbours, school friends… The children enjoyed it and we all went home very tired, with a bit less money than with started with. But we didn’t spend all the budget I had assigned to the afternoon.

A weekend in Quimper

We spent the weekend in Quimper. I had been invited to preach in as mall evangelical church there. Saturday was lovely, dry for the most part. We visited a small village called Locronan before going to Quimper in the afternoon.

Quimper is a big town in Southern Brittany. The city centre has retained many old features: narrow cobbled streets, an old cathedral, old houses… There were many people in the narrow streets. I saw lot of young people. We wandered around the town centre and by the riverside. It’s not far from the see and the tide was high, so the water was almost at the street level. early the next morning, the tide was even higher and some of the streets were flooded.

We stayed in a hotel near the town centre.

We enjoyed our visit. It seems to be a pleasant place

A fun packed weekend

We had a fun packed weekend. The children had their usual Saturday activities: horse riding for Maxime and football for Jean-Baptiste followed by a birthday party. In the evening, there was a concert in the church. French singer Pierre Lachat gave a Christmas concert. There were lot of people, about 50, including some of our neighbours who had seen the leaflet in their letterbox and had told us they would come. It was great fun.

On Sunday, a German language assistant that Esther had met recently came to church and joined us for lunch. In the afternoon, we went to St-Brieuc Evangelical church (France-Mission), to see their Christmas show. It was great fun, and it was nice to see friends there. We came back tired but happy.

Visiting preacher

We had a visiting preacher this weekend. Dominique Ferret is president of our church denomination (CAEF). He led a meeting on Saturday evening, speaking about the denomination, its history, foundations and ministries. It was very interesting and a good number of church folks turned up. On Sunday, he opened the word from Isaiah 6, urging us to get a right vision of God and of ourselves.
